On the mountain he is taken in as an apprentice by one of the three Firstborn and learns the rarest art of magic there is. The loss leaves him with two wounds that never heal: the fear of getting close to someone and failing to protect them, and the desire to discover which demon was responsible.
That hunt will drive the rest of his life.
